The tissue bank located in the Neuromuscular Disorders Program at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine is an essential part of the on-going research into the causes of ALS. Tissue donations are taken from patients with a clinical diagnosis of ALS. Brain tissue and spinal cord tissue is collected and preserved for use in research for pathological and genetic investigation of the causes of ALS. By examining the motor neurons and other cells of the human brain and spinal cord, where ALS begins, a better picture of the factors involved in ALS could hopefully lead to further discoveries of treatments and cures.
Provisions for tissue donations
must be in place prior to a donor's death. For more information
on how ALS patients can donate brain and spinal cord tissue, please contact
Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nailah Siddique, R.N., at nsiddique@northwestern.edu or (312) 503-2712.
