About Our Services

The Les Turner ALS Foundation has been providing healthcare for people with ALS (PALS) since 1986 when the Les Turner/Lois Insolia ALS Center was opened on the campus of Northwestern in Chicago, Illinois.

The current multidisciplinary staff includes five neurologists, a pulmonologist, three nurses, an occupational therapist, speech pathologist, dietician, genetic counselor, respiratory therapist, drug study research coordinator and medical assistant.  The Center staff is complemented by the Les Turner ALS Foundation’s Home and Community Services Team, comprised of five Patient and Family Advocates (three Nurses and two Social Workers).

2013 ALS/MND Nursing Syposium:
Education for ALS Healthcare Professionals

The Foundation was very pleased with the success of the 8th Annual ALS/MND Nursing Symposium held at Northwestern Medicine and the Avenue Hotel. This year's event was record breaking with over 200 attendees representing four countries. The Symposium is the only one of its kind designed specifically for nurses and allied health care professionals working directly with people living with ALS and other motor neuron diseases.

The purpose of this Symposium is to offer ALS/MND health care professionals the most up to date information on best practices, cognitive issues, genetic and clinical research information, cutting edge technology for respiratory devices and augmentative communication and to provide networking experiences. Several staff from the Les Turner/Lois Insolia ALS Center and Foundation's Home and Community Team presented on specific topics, including Dr. Lisa Wolfe, Dr. Robert Sufit, Naliah Siddique and Lisa Kinsley and ALS professionals from the ALS Association and the Muscular Dystropy Association were also present.
